Gibbys Steakhouse Launches Takeout and “Gibbys at Home”

Gibbys Steakhouse Launches Takeout and “Gibbys at Home”

Like many Montrealers, I truly missed Gibbys Steakhouse (www.gibbys.com) during the COVID-19 lockdown. While its Old Montreal and St. Sauveur locations are now open for dining, Gibbys has implemented a highly popular takeout and curbside pickup service. The restaurant follows all required protective measures for patrons, staff, and suppliers, including socially distanced tables, staff wearing protective equipment, hand sanitizing stations, and regular sanitization. In Old Montreal, a separate entrance has been created for incoming guests to avoid cross-traffic.

The takeout service is excellent, with meals cooked and ready to go. During a recent pickup, valet service ensured smooth entry, and manager Hany brought four neatly packaged bags to my car. Delivery to two households included Gibbys salads, rack of lamb Saint Sauveur, baked potatoes, asparagus, salmon filet, rib-eye, and complimentary hot bread and butter. Special occasions were marked with complimentary birthday cakes. Meals were so well-packaged that no reheating was required, allowing families to enjoy the experience together via Facetime.

Gibbys at Home

The “Gibbys at Home” concept has been well-received. Each meal kit comes with detailed instructions. Orders must be placed 24 hours in advance at info@gibbys.com or by calling 514-282-1837. Pickup is between Noon and 7 pm. In St. Sauveur, pickup is available Mondays or Thursdays after 4 pm. Cooked takeout orders can be placed the same day, preferably by noon, for pickup between 5 pm and 6:30 pm. A wide array of meal options is available on the Gibbys website.

A Montreal Landmark

Founded in 1969 by Gilbert “Gibby” Rosenberg and partners in St. Sauveur, Gibbys quickly became a legendary steakhouse. A second location opened three years later in a historic former stable in Place d’Youville, Old Montreal. Both locations continue to thrive, with Old Montreal seating 325 guests (now 180 with social distancing) plus a seasonal terrace for 40 diners. St. Sauveur’s capacity is now approximately 150. Stone walls, beamed ceilings, and cozy fireplaces create a romantic backdrop for dining.
