Reuben’s Deli & Steakhouse makes a COVID-19 comeback for take-out and delivery via Deville

Reuben’s Deli & Steakhouse – Pop-Up Takeout

Foodies like myself surely miss certain restaurants that have remained closed since the start of the pandemic. A prime example is Reuben’s Deli & Steakhouse on St. Catherine Street. The Tzemopoulos family has been operating this iconic spot for more than 40 years under the RD3 Restaurant Group, which also includes Deville Dinerbar and Anton & James on Stanley Street.

While Reuben’s has not formally reopened, the Tzemopoulos brothers have found a clever solution: you can now order Reuben’s favorites via Uber Eats or takeout, with everything prepared in the Deville kitchen. Excited by this development, I arranged a pickup of multiple items to enjoy over several days at the office for lunch.

Arriving at 12:15 pm on a weekday at the Double D Pop Up Shop window, everything was ready and neatly packed. My selection included a grilled karnatzel with toasted pumpernickel bread and mustard; smoked meat mac and cheese; roast beef melt with fries (sliced roast beef on thick grilled rye bread topped with roasted garlic mayo, sautéed onions, and melted Swiss cheese); the original Reuben sandwich (thick sliced pumpernickel, half-pound of smoked meat, melted Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, and Reuben’s secret sauce); and for dessert, a large piece of Deville’s chocolate food cake, big easy beignets, and a Pepsi to wash it all down.

I spread this treat over four days, and it is highly recommended for anyone looking for a special meal, whether at the office or home. The Reuben’s menu also includes salads, steaks, honey crunch chicken strips, salmon, ribs poutine, steak cut onion rings, fried pickles, and more. You also have the option to order from Deville for desserts and additional items.
