CSL salutes resident Red Fisher

Sports journalism legend Red Fisher has been a resident of Côte Saint-Luc  for most of his life. He can regularly be seen at our public library and in the shopping aisles of the IGA at Quartier Cavendish.

Fisher retired last week from The Monteal Gazette following an extraordinary career covering sports, specifically the Montreal Canadiens.

Here is a resolution I moved at the June 11 Côte Sain-Luc city council meeting. It was seconded by Councillor Allan J. Levine, who represents Red's district. I have been asked by the mayor to come back with some recommendations on how we can properly recognize him.

  

Whereas  Red Fisher is a longtime resident of Côte Saint-Luc.

Whereas Red Fisher has covered the Montreal sports scene for The Montreal Star and The Montreal Gazette, specifically the Canadiens for the past 56 years.

Whereas Red Fisher Fisher  won the National Newspaper Award for sports writing in 1971 and 1991 and has been nominated for that award on two other occasions.

Whereas Red Fisher  was also the recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Award from Sports Media Canada in 1999.

Whereas Red Fisher is a member of the Hockey Hall of Fame.

Whereas Red Fisher last week announced his retirement,.

THAT Council wish Red Fisher the very best in his retirement and that a formal letter of good wishes be sent to him signed by the mayor and council.

He attended local schools and was first elected as City Councillor for District 2 in 2005. Since then, he has been re-elected in each municipal election, most recently in 2025.
