Sheldon Goldberg, a longtime volunteer for the Côte Saint-Luc Emergency Medical Services (EMS), is promoting a campaign September 13 to 20, between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.

Hatzoloh Montreal is a local, independent, volunteer-run emergency medical response organization serving the Greater Montreal community.

“Our responders are ordinary people doing extraordinary things,”  Goldberg says. “They leave work, family dinners, synagogue, or their beds in the middle of the night when someone needs help.”

Hatzoloh Montreal aims to be ready for calls 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. As Goldberg explains, readiness costs more than $400,000 every year. This includes training, medical equipment, supplies, vehicles, communications and the infrastructure behind every response. “That’s where the community becomes part of the response,” he says. “There are two heroes behind every call: the volunteer who answers it and the donor who makes sure that volunteer is ready.”

The campaign is called  Heroes Helping Heroes — Be the Hero Behind the Hero.

Goldberg wants to make it clear that Hatzoloh Montreal is completely independent from United Hatzalah of Israel. Donations to Hatzoloh Montreal stay here and support local operations.

La campagne s’intitule « Heroes Helping Heroes — Be the Hero Behind the Hero » (Des héros qui aident des héros — Soyez le héros derrière le héros).
