First Quebec Spay and Neuter Day is February 26

Quebec's first Spay and Neuter Day is set for Tuesday, February  26 and on behalf of the Côte Saint-Luc Cats Committee (CSLCC)  I sure do hope that anyone with a cat or dog in their home that is not sterilized will  take the necessary action.

Pet overpopulation is at a crisis level in Quebec. Currently there  are approximately 380,000 dogs and cats in Montreal, of which 30,000 are not spayed or neutered.

Neutering

I am glad to see the City of Montreal backing this campaign. Needless to say, the small team of volunteers at the CSLCC continue to do our part.  Over the past three years, thanks in large part to our partner Shelley Schecter of Educhat, we have had countless number of cats trapped and either spayed or neutered. This is serious business, as the only way to reduce the homeless cat population is to prevent these kitties from reproducing. We have a great deal of work to do. There is absolutely no excuse for someone who has an outdoor cat in particular not to have the animal sterilized.

If you fall into this category, visit the Côte St. Luc Hospital for Animals on Baily Road next to the Famous Delly Boys Plaza.  You can also go to the local SPCA. “We have a vet working full-time, six days a week just doing spay/neuter surgeries,” said the SPCA’s Alanna Devine. “For cats we're still fighting an uphill battle. Our euthanasia rate is about 30 per cent.”
