The Musicians of the World Symphony Orchestra to perform at CSL Concert Aug. 10

The Musicians of the World Symphony Orchestra (MWSO) was founded in 2006 by conductor  Joseph Milo and his wife Lucy Ravinsky. This one of a kind orchestra is composed of 55 musicians: about 80 percent of its members are from 15 countries around the world, while the remaining 20 percent are natives of Montreal, who successfully facilitated the integration of the newcomers.

Maestro Joseph Milo

On Sunday, August 10 (3 pm) Maestro Milo and his orchestra will perform at a much anticipated free concert in the Ashkelon Gardens behind City Hall. It is part of our Library and Culture Department’s Summer in the City Program.  Bring your lawn chairs. In the event of rain, it will be moved inside and and a limited number of passes will be available (two passes per person) maximum. “Jazz and Symphony” will be theme, with Olga Murysina as a violin soloist, Olivia  Hacinsky-Charette as the soprano performer and Mike Melino the tenor.

‘We will have a special tribute to Bob Slapcoff, our great percussionist who passed away suddenly and unexpectedly last November,” said Maestro Milo. “He was with us from the beginning of the orchestra’s inception and always an inspiration.”

Please listen to my podcast with Maestro Milo by clicking here where he talks about the history of the orchestra and previews the concert. The link is right here

The program will include numbers from Mozart, Beethoven, Cole Porter, a Salute to Big Bands, Sinatra and much more.

They have been rehearsing at Côte Saint-Luc City Hall for many years and as part of the arrangement, they agree to perform a benefit concert once a year. We have been the beneficiaries the past seven years.

Milo has resided in Côte Saint-Luc for the better part of 50 years. He was born in Israel, moved to New York and then came to Montreal to work as the music director at the Shaare Hashomayim in Westmount. He is the father of two and the grandfather of three. His wife Lucy is a devoted collaborator with him with the orchestra and does an excellent job as the de facto executive producer.

While the August 11 concert is free, the Musicians of the World Orchestra are non-profit and have many expenses. So, a donation box will on site for those who wish to contribute.
