La Cage Brasserie sportive’s takeout service has become a true discovery for diners

La Cage: Brasserie Sportive – Decarie

Last February, just a few weeks before the COVID-19 pandemic hit, the grand opening of the new La Cage: Brasserie Sportive at the former P.F. Chang’s location on Rue des Jockeys near Decarie Blvd was held. Formerly known as La Cage Aux Sports, the two-level, 317-seat restaurant had little time to attract a following or showcase its $1.5 million makeover before temporarily closing. Featuring a modern design with several giant screen walls, three private rooms for meetings or groups, and an open kitchen concept, the restaurant offers an immersive sporting atmosphere.

Groupe Sportscene President and CEO Jean Bédard gradually reopened the 37 La Cage properties in Quebec in June. The company also owns breakfast restaurant L’Avenue on the South Shore, P.F. Chang’s at Carrefour Laval, and Moishes Steakhouse, which will resurface at a new venue after the pandemic. In addition to restaurants, Sportscene sells La Cage and Moishes branded products in grocery stores and offers ready-to-eat meals.

I was familiar with P.F. Chang’s on Decarie and had a good relationship with managing director Emile Haykal, who now oversees the new La Cage at the same location.

La Cage – Chez Vous: Delivery and Take-Out

La Cage has adapted to the pandemic with “La Cage – Chez vous,” offering delivery, take-out, and ready-to-cook meals. For my mother-in-law and father-in-law, a delivery included a Blitz (100% Canadian beef patty) with lettuce, tomato, red onion, and mustard, plus fresh Atlantic salmon served with croutons. They were impressed and plan to reorder. For my household, we enjoyed three lobster tacos, a green salad, two salmon poke bowls, and a salmon tartare meal with fries and salad. We also ordered Moishes’ famous millefeuille for dessert. The lobster tacos were excellent, and the ready-to-cook kits from executive chef Louis-François Marcotte were a pleasant surprise.

Haykal briefly added some P.F. Chang’s favorites to the Decarie menu, including wonton soup, dumplings, vegetarian spring rolls, dynamite shrimp, and sushi, reminding patrons of the original location.
