Petros Taverna is giving back to front-line workers

Petros Taverna: Greek Cuisine and Community Spirit

Ted Dranias has always been a community-minded businessman. The owner of Petros Taverna has been busy getting his Westmount (4785 Sherbrooke Street West) and Mile End (234 Laurier Street West) locations up and running for take-out and delivery during the COVID-19 pandemic. This week, their dining rooms reopened as well, following strict measures enacted by the Quebec government. His Griffintown (1613 William Street) location will reopen soon, while a new place in Little Italy might not be far behind. Petros Taverna enjoys a strong and loyal clientele. Dranias and his partner on Laurier Avenue, Peri Kalivrousis, have devoted significant effort in recent months to donating meals to front-line workers.

In May 2015, Dranias opened his first Petros on Notre Dame Street in Griffintown, naming it in tribute to his late father. A second Petros was established in Westmount in December 2016, followed by Petros Laurier in April 2019. The Griffintown restaurant relocated to William Street last fall.

Menu Highlights

Specializing in Greek Mediterranean cuisine, Petros Taverna offers a variety of home-style menu choices. Popular dishes for take-out include lamb chops, moussaka, fresh fish, fried zucchini, and the Greek spread medley. Complete menu packages are available at www.restaurantpetros.ca.

Community Support

During the pandemic, Petros has donated meals to front-line health workers, benefiting organizations such as the Donald Berman Maimonides Geriatric Centre, the Donald Berman Jewish Eldercare Centre, the Jewish General Hospital, and the McGill University Health Centre. You can follow Petros on Facebook: @PetrosTaverna.

Ryú Sushi: Fresh, Sustainable Japanese Cuisine

Ryú Sushi (www.ryusushi.ca) has been thriving since reopening its Peel and Westmount locations for take-out and delivery. Dining reservations at reduced capacity began on June 22 at both venues. Ryú, which means “Dragon” in Japanese, is renowned in Montreal for its fresh ingredients and philosophy of respect for the environment and each other.

The restaurant specializes in high-end sustainable sushi. Peel is open Tuesday to Saturday, and Westmount Thursday to Monday, each offering different menus. Safety measures are strictly enforced: all staff wear gloves and masks, hand sanitizers and disinfectants are prevalent, and all take-out bags are sealed. A vestibule area separates clients from staff, and curbside pick-up is available upon request. Orders are prepaid, minimizing contact.

Menu Highlights

Popular dishes include the Classic Poke, nigiri and sashimi platters based on the chef’s daily choice of fresh Oceanwise fish, which may include bio salmon, big eye tuna, hamachi, albacore tuna, and Japanese-sourced fish when in season. Specialty maki rolls are also highly recommended.

Enjoy the Ryú experience at home via delivery partners Uber Eats or DoorDash, or place an order by text or phone. For more information, visit www.ryusushi.ca.
