Being the home of such a large Jewish community, the City of Côte Saint-Luc has always maintained a very strong relationship with the Consulate General of Israel in Montreal.
When Eliaz Luf began his mandate as Consul General last summer, I invited him to City Hall, a tour of our magnificent library and a visit to Alex Look Park on Kildare and Marc Chagall, named in memory of the young Côte Saint-Luc native who was murdered by Hamas terrorists on October 7, 2023.
On January 12, Mayor David Tordjman and I welcomed newly arrived Deputy Chief of Mission & Counsul Aviner Fishhof, accompanied by staffer Adam Luxenberg. Aviner is an accomplished individual. He was a computer engineer working in the high technology industry. He woke up one day and decided to switch gears and pursue a diplomatic post. His first assignment was as the Consul at the Israeli embassy in Montevideo, Uruguay. He enjoyed the experience, but was happy to come to Montreal with his wife and four children. The Fisshof’s have their permanent home in the Golan Heights. At the Consulate he focuses his attention on political and administrative issues, including passport and VISA requests. We look forward to working with the Consulate on different programs.
Étant le foyer d’une communauté juive aussi importante, la ville de Côte Saint-Luc a toujours entretenu des relations très étroites avec le consulat général d’Israël à Montréal.
Lorsque Eliaz Luf a pris ses fonctions de consul général l’été dernier, je l’ai invité à l’hôtel de ville, où il a pu visiter notre magnifique bibliothèque et le parc Alex Look, situé à l’angle des rues Kildare et Marc Chagall, nommé en mémoire du jeune natif de Côte Saint-Luc assassiné par des terroristes du Hamas le 7 octobre 2023.
Le 12 janvier, le maire David Tordjman et moi-même avons accueilli le nouveau chef de mission adjoint et consul Aviner Fishhof, accompagné de son collaborateur Adam Luxenberg. Aviner est un homme accompli. Il était ingénieur en informatique et travaillait dans le secteur des hautes technologies. Un jour, il s’est réveillé et a décidé de changer de voie pour se lancer dans une carrière diplomatique. Sa première affectation a été celle de consul à l’ambassade d’Israël à Montevideo, en Uruguay. Il a apprécié cette expérience, mais était heureux de venir à Montréal avec sa femme et ses quatre enfants. Les Fisshof ont leur résidence permanente dans les hauteurs du Golan. Au consulat, il se concentre sur les questions politiques et administratives, notamment les demandes de passeport et de visa. Nous sommes impatients de travailler avec le consulat sur différents programmes.
