The 44th Côte Saint-Luc Golf Classic was a wonderful day on the links

On August 5, I once again co-chaired and took part in the annual Côte Saint-Luc Golf Classic at Meadowbrook. It was our 44th annual event, always done so in collaboration with the CSL Men’s Club.

Myself with Peter Lipari, Philippe Mamane, Pierre Brunet and Councillor Lior Azerad

Thanks to Norm Goldfield from the Men’s Club for the important role he played as well as Irene Lahaie and Moe Giobbi from the Parks and Recreation Department.  Marc Ezerzer and Hagai Brenner from KW Prestige Real Estate and Philippe Mamane,  a wealth management advisor  at Assante Wealth Management, were the official sponsors. The team from Pierre Brunet’s McDonald’s franchise at the Côte St. Luc Shopping Centre  welcomed golfers   with coffee and muffins.

Peter Lipari, the owner of the IGA grocery store at the Côte St. Luc Shopping Centre and a strong supporter of community initiatives, was our special honoree. He was part of my foursome with Allan Levine and advertising executive  Steven Wise of Mediatomic and folks this man knows how to golf. Peter is a wonderful member of our community, who always steps up to assist, He’s the kind of person who literally walks up the aisles and talks to his customers.

Proceeds from the event will go to the Parks and Recreation Bursary Fund, which assists parents with financial difficulties and children’s with special needs in registering for specific programs they might otherwise not be able to afford.

This was a day to value the beauty of Meadowbrook and its green space. For many years it has been under threat by developers. Our city wants to keep it intact. If anything, it should be enhanced. The old clubhouse has a big hole in its ceiling. Just imagine what this place could be like with a state of the art banquet hall. Why do local golfers need to trek out to the deep West Island or the Laurentians to golf, when the possibility of  doing this right next door makes such perfect sense.  Perhaps owners Groupe Pacific would like to consider this?

I was pleased on this occasion, as the city councillor responsible for Local Commerce, to present Meadowbrook with the  Business of the Month Award.

See my video chat with Golf Course Director Michael Johnson.

A banquet will be held for all participants at the end of  September at which time we will present trophies   for the longest drive and closest to the pin (male and female categories).  In additition, we will properly honor Lipari.  This event will be held in conjunction with the annual Gardens of Distinction program.
