CSL Gary Carter tribute to be streamed live on July 1

The City of Côte Saint-Luc will live-stream our Gary Carter Field dedication ceremony on Sunday, July 1 at 9 pm.

Viewers can watch live as Mayor Anthony Housefather, former Montreal Expo Warren Cromartie, and other dignitaries unveil the design for a sign marking the city’s primary baseball field. The event is part of the city’s annual Canada Day festivities. As the city councillor responsible for naming initiatives, I am proud to have pilotd this issues since the tragic passing of Gary Carter a few months ago from cancer.

Gary Carter was a frequent visitor to Côte Saint-Luc during summers in the late 1970s and early 1980s at the Johnny Elias Grand Slam Baseball School. He  had fans across North America so we wanted to share our event with them, live over the Internet.

Cromartie, who is president of the Montreal Baseball Project, which seeks to return professional baseball to Montreal, will speak at the event. Fans will also watch pre-recorded video messages from teammates Andre Dawson, Tim Raines, Bryn Smith, Ellis Valentine, Rodney Scott, Rowland Office and former Expos general manager and field manager Jim Fanning. Our own Darryl Levine went and spoke to the players.

The live stream will available at 9 pm through a link at www.CoteSaintLuc.org/GaryCarter. Cromartie will be at the park earlier in the evening to conduct baseball clinics. Also joining us will be rapper Annakin Slayd, whose tribute video to Carter has gone viral. We will show this on the big screen.

And just wait until the fireworks. Parks and Recreation Director David Taveroff has clevery request that we see Carter's number 8 in the sky. Now we just have to pray for good weather! Watch this video of Gary's touching speech when he was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. I just saw it for the first time and it truly brought tears to my eyes.

The City of Côte Saint-Luc is the third most populous municipality on the island of Montreal, with a population of more 32,321. Gary Carter Field is located at Pierre Elliott Trudeau Park and is considered one of the best municipal baseball fields in Quebec. Each year, the field used by Major League Baseball Scouting Bureau Invitational to scout prospects in the region.
